Am I going to say this right? How will I answer……? What if I don’t know how to answer their questions?
Sometimes we believe that we must have all the answers to people’s questions about life and faith. Feelings of inadequacy and fear keep us from sharing the hope and life that is found in Jesus.
Alpha filters these questions through a different lens. Its core values are rooted with these words from 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5, “And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.”
As a church, we desire to be a loving community where people come to know God, follow Jesus and serve in the world around us. A beautiful thing has begun to happen as we gather as a church family for Alpha each week. Questions are being asked, wisdom from all generations sought, and we are learning how to have conversations about our faith. Teenagers and seniors alike are sharing faith stories of how God has been and is at work in their lives and in our community. We’re discovering Jesus in new and old ways. While our church building is undergoing a massive renovation, God is also working on us. And all we can do is humbly rely on Him to continue to lead and guide us each step of the way.
