Joy in the Morning

How were you able to stay physically fit?

  • Walking, walking and more walking for everyone. Biking. Pilates classes for a few. YouTube exercises. Golf for some. Cross country skiing and hockey for a couple.
  • During a period of quarantine, one couple walked loops climbing the two stair cases, plus daily exercises to remain active as recommended by Public Health to help prevent blood clots.
  • Pickleball. “The first time we took 2 grandboys, they asked “Is this a game for old people?” We replied, “You tell us when we’re done.” They liked it so much they got their parents (our children and spouses) involved. Now it’s a family game. Good exercise, competitive and fun.”
  • Yard work, gardening and landscaping. Some took advantage of the extra free time to tear everything out and re-landscape. Snow shovelling.
  • A honey-do list for some. Painting. Others took on reno projects while the time was available to do so.
  • We volunteer at the Food Bank. That is a good physical workout.

In quick strokes:

Thankfully, even during the period of time with the strictest restrictions, we were always able to go walking in our neighbourhood. Fresh air and free exercise. Good for so many reasons, physical, emotional, mental and social.
“If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.”
“If you don’t take care of yourself, the undertaker will overtake that responsibility for you.”
